February Desserts To Cure Your Wintertime Blues

For as much as the winter months seem to take the energy right out of me, they seem to make the kids as restless and rowdy as ever!  There’s no better time to get motivated and give the little restless hands in your house a fun and creative activity to do.  And what activity is more fun than one you get to eat?

February is dessert month and is home to mouth-watering “holidays” like Nutella Day and Bramley Apple Week. It’s time to warm up to the oven and exercise your baking skills this month!  Your kids will thank you for the treats, and won’t even know they’re learning a valuable new skill!  Here are a few ideas for some warm and delicious sweets that will help you forget about the chilly winter days.

Nutella Goes with Everything

I would eat Nutella for every meal if I could, and now I can take a day and celebrate my passion guilt free!  February 5th is World Nutella Day, and I plan on spreading the love on just about every edible surface I can find!  I might even save a bit for some of these incredible recipes from the Nutella website. They list the level of difficulty on each recipe, so you’ll be able to celebrate whether you’re a whizz in the kitchen or want to indulge oven free.

Fried Ice Cream for Cold Winter Nights

Ice cream is one of my great loves, but the last thing I want in the heart of winter is an icy cold dessert!  Luckily, I’ve found an amazing recipe for toasty, fried ice cream that perfectly balances creamy cool and crispy heat.  This BBC Food fried ice cream recipe is blissfully good and fun to make!

Chill Out and Warm Up

Sometimes I just don’t have the energy to bake up a storm, but my sweet tooth knows what it wants!  This is when I love to leave the kitchen behind, build a blanket fort in the living room with the kids and order some delivery.  It’s a great way to give me some extra time with the family, and it gives us the opportunity to try some new and fun dishes.  Popular delivery apps make it easy as pie to get food delivered right to your door, and they have loads of sweets, too! Bramley Apple Bake-off

We’re in the midst of Bramley apple week, and making the most of this celebration is a clever way to get the kids to eat more healthy fruits and an excuse to go crazy with tarts, cakes and biscuits.  I love apple crumbles for dessert, and homemade applesauce keeps well and works great as a side or a dessert.  Head to Bramley Apple central to find all the apple-related recipes you could ever dream of.  Encourage the kids to pick out their favourites and turn it into a lesson on how fruits and vegetables are Mother Nature’s sweets!

The wintertime might not be your favourite part of the year, but there’s plenty you can do to pick yourself up and make some unforgettable family memories.  Who am I kidding?  As if I needed an excuse to go Nutella shopping!

A Little Obsession....

Being an Ex-Raver I'm drawn to anything that has a bit of colour, preferably the whole rainbow and anything a bit plastic.. I loved the whole junk jewellery vibe then I got really fat and anything of a standard necklace wouldn't fit around my neck.. A huge non scale victory has happened and I'm able to wear standard necklaces and I've found a couple hidden gems!

Down The Rabbit Hole has became a favourite and as I work in a school I wear them a lot with my outfits and I get loads of compliments especially the rainbow one.

IvyBell Designs has gorgeous bold one off statement pieces and the two I own have a retro feel to them , trolls and my little pony. Again I get a huge amount of compliments when I wear these two, people are really drawn to them.

The last hidden gem is Mr Creepys Wonder Emporium , now these aren't very work friendly but are absolutely amazing! You all know I'm a massive Horror fan. Mr C has created some very cool necklaces mashing some well known horror gods and ice creams together and the outcome is pretty awesome.

3 top haircare tips everyone should know

If your haircare routine currently consists of a quick shampoo, it’s time to listen up. It’s important to look after your locks if you want to keep them looking and feeling great. With this in mind, here are three top haircare tips that everyone should know.

1. Treat your hair loss with an effective medicine

The truth is, hair loss can be a highly distressing issue not just for men, but women too. Whether you’ve recently been through a stressful or emotional event, you’ve been suffering from an illness, you’re going through hormonal changes or you’re taking a certain medication, there are a number of reasons why your tresses may be thinning. For example, you could be experiencing female-pattern baldness - a condition that causes women to lose their hair.

Although losing your crowning glory can be extremely difficult, it’s important to remember that there are treatment options available . T. For example, you could try using minoxidil - a lotion that is used to slow and even reverse the hair  loss caused by female-pattern baldness. You can access such medicines, as well as hair loss treatments for men, from Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor and other trusted websites, as well as from your GP.

2. Give your locks extra volume by drying your hair upside down

For an instant volume boost, you could try drying your hair upside down. When you’re ready to blast your tresses after a shower, bend over, tip your head and let your hair hang down towards the floor. Take a brush and gently comb your locks in the same direction with your dryer following behind. Drying your hair at a downwards angle will give your tresses more lift, bounce and volume, as well as reducing knots and tangles. This technique is especially useful if you have fine, limp hair.

To ensure your locks look as big and beautiful as possible, you could also use a volume enhancing hair product. Spritzing your tresses with a specially designed treatment is sure to give your hair even more bounce.

3. Wash your hair the night before to make styling easier the next day

When you hop in the shower each morning, it makes sense to wash your hair while you’re there. However, did you know that cleaning your locks the night before could make your styling routine much easier the next day? Hair tends holds its style much better when it’s not completely fresh out the shower, and the next day, it’s likely to have much more texture. So, if you want to curl or straighten your tresses with ease, you could try switching up your regime.

If you’re struggling to adapt to your new hair washing routine, you could give your roots a spray of dry shampoo each morning to help you feel fresh for the day ahead.

It’s important to care for your hair, and with these top tips, you shouldn’t find it difficult to keep your locks looking and feeling their best.
