On Wednesday, I was invited to one of three, of my local French Cafe Rouge in Birmingham town centre. Generally when I think of Cafe Rouge I think of a lunchtime menu. I knew they did a breakfast menu but didn't realise they serve up a very spectacular evening menu too. They have just revamped the menu with a new Autumn & Winter menu. I was invited to a Secret Steak Supper Club for strictly invited guests only to try their succulent steaks plus blind tastings and food pairings hosted by industry experts.
On arrival there was lots of champagne and canapes, they looked amazing. I had a vegetarian Croquettes De Legumes - Which was petits pois, broad bean and herb croquettes with crème fraîche aïoli. I am currently on antibiotics so I could have any wine or champagne ( super sad face).
I tried my best to stick to my slimming world plan and go for the lighter more healthier opinions. My weigh in day is Friday so I didn't what to go full steam ahead and totally go off plan.
For starters I had SOUPE À L'OIGNON - French onion soup made to our own recipe with Gruyère and croutons. I loved the flavour, texture and it was super filling on its own.
Next up was tasting of some delicious steaks and sauces, they was all amazing it was nice to be able to try all the different sauces and slices of different steaks.
So for my main I had DEMI POULET half roast chicken marinated in garlic & herbs, served with frites. I actually swapped my frites for the house salad ( speed foods and all) I've recently only just started to ask if I can swap things around on the menu, everything these days comes with fries or chips. I've never liked to mess around before and just nothing taken the meal with what it comes with. This isn't ideally when you are doing slimming world and I have have actually been surprised with how many place spare happy to swap things around without no questions asked. The waiter was fabulous and swapped it over straight away. The chicken was amazing full of flavour and so tender. Best bit of chicken I've had out for a while.
Puddings was Lemon tart and Creme brûlée.
The lemon tart was amazing so tangy and fresh and I loved the creme brûlée with caramelised vanilla crème with strawberry & black pepper sorbet.
If you are ever in Birmingham go and them out breakfast before some Christmas shopping, lunch, cake or mulled wine. Then a catch up with friends for a lovely evening meal.
I what to thank Cafe Rouge for the invite and the amazing customer service, the staff are so fabulous!
