Enid Blyton's New Annual For Christmas & Giveaway

I know as a child, I loved to read. Getting lost in a book was magic. Me and Raiden love to share a story together and I love to relive the magic with him reading again some of my favourite classics.

The modern times we live in are a blessing in so many ways, from the wonder of modern medicine to the miracle of instant communication. However, as a parent trying to decide what to buy your children, there can be a real dilemma. There is such a huge array of toys and video games to choose from that you can feel paralysed by abundance of choice. At the same time, many parents feel nostalgic for their own, simpler childhoods.

Enid Blyton is, for a lot of people, a staple of their own childhoods. We want to make sure that the legacy of Far Away Tree and the Famous Five carries on down generations. Their message of friendship, family and adventure is a timeless value that we all want our children to carry on.
The latest Enid Blyton annual is out now, the latest in a long line since 1957. To celebrate the continuing popularity of Enid Blyton’s stories, I have been offered a festive bundle of her classics to you to offer as a competition prize to one lucky reader of Trials and Tribulations

The prize comprises of the below books.

  • The Famous Five: Five on a Treasure Island
  • Enid Blyton’s Magical Treasury
  • The Famous Five Annual 2016
  • Enid Blyton’s Christmas Stories
  • The Famous Five Colour Reads: Happy Christmas, Five!

The Gift DVD Review

The gift is now out on DVD, me and my mom wanted to watch this at the cinema but when we finally got around to it, the showings had dropped and was on really late at night. You all will know I'm a bit of a horror buff, at the moment I've been a bit bored with the influx of ghost and spirt films, so The Gift made a refreshing change. This thriller has a real quite shocking sticking ending, which actually really surprised me. I liked the hidden effect of bullies always get their karma in the end. The gift is easily the best thriller I've seen this year.

Simon (Jason Bateman; Horrible Bosses, TV’s Arrested Development) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall; Transcendence, Iron Man 3, The Prestige) are a young married couple whose life is going just as planned until a chance encounter with an acquaintance from Simon’s high school sends their world into a harrowing tailspin. Simon doesn’t recognize Gordo (Joel Edgerton) at first, but after a series of uninvited encounters and mysterious gifts, a horrifying secret from the past is uncovered. As Robyn learns the unsettling truth about what happened between Simon and Gordo, her world unravels and she starts to ask the question: how well do we really know the people closest to us?

Allison Tolman (TV’s Fargo) also stars in this chilling feature directorial debut from acclaimed actor and writer Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty, Warrior) who produces alongside Jason Blum of Blumhouse (Sinister, Insidious, The Purge).

Special Features:
·         Karma For Bullies
·         The Darker Side of Jason Bateman
·         Deleted Scenes
·         Alternate Ending (Blu-ray exclusive)

The Gift is available on Digital HD now and Blu-ray & DVD from December 7th

Lexie's & My Outfit Of The Day

Trendy Tot Thursday  (#TT_Thursday) is a great little link up, where you showcase something that your child has been wearing this week. If it's new or old anything goes.

I've been so crappy with this linky for a couple of weeks, as you can see the blog has been a bit awol. Being back at work, home life, being ill and a family member being in hospital has really taken its toll and I'm super behind on everything. I wanted to make sure I linked up with the last TT_Thursday of this year, even though I'm running a tad late.

I saw these dresses pop up on one of the money saving pages and I thought they was really cute. Me and Lexie have never worn matching dresses so I thought these was really cool. They cost just under £19 for the two of them with postage.

Slimfast 7 Day Challenge

I was really thrilled to be asked to do the Slimfast 7 day challenge. I used to do the Slimfast diet about 8 years ago. Anytime I was about to go on holiday I used to switch to the shakes and be able to drop a stone on a few weeks.

The plan itself has changed quite a lot I remember there only being the shakes and bars, now they have a whole line of snacks. Slimfast sent me a 7 day box which included six ready-to-drink milk shakes, eight meal bars, seven chocolate snack bars and seven packs of tasty savoury snacks. All these was conveniently packed and easy to pop in to your bag ready for on the go.

On the plan you can enjoy three snacks, two meal replacement products and one balanced meal a day. There’s also a host of free weight loss tools and helpful information on our SlimFast website including lots of yummy recipes.

If you have been following my Instagram, then you would of saw my breakfast, lunch and snack Slimfast posts. The meal replacement bars are very heavy and at first it took me a long time to eat it all. I'm used to quite a light small cereal bar in the mornings, the Slimfast bars did manage my hunger better and the snacks all was really nice. I decided to add some fruit in with my snacks as I was really missing it.

I kept my meals simple to keep in line with the kids and overall the plan was really easy to follow. The ready to go shakes taste so much better than the powdered ones you make up yourself in the tins, they seem thicker and sweeter.

I've lost 4lbs in a week on the Slimfast plan and it's given me a huge Kickstart in to getting back in to shape and motivation I needed.

Look In My Letterbox.

I'm waiting so so many things at the moment but they seem to be taking forever to get to me. I'm just hoping it's the Black Friday rush.

Christmas Stocking Fillers

The Imaginary

The Imaginary by A. F Harrold. It is a lovely story, perfect for children 8+. We are currently working our way though the Roald Dahl books, Raiden is getting very confident reading out loud. The Imaginary is a lovely extraordinary tale of love, loss, imagination and not really being there, for fans of Roald Dahl and Neil Gaiman.

Rudger is Amanda's best friend. He doesn't exist, but nobody's perfect.
Only Amanda can see her imaginary friend - until the sinister Mr Bunting arrives at Amanda's door. MrBunting hunts imaginaries. Rumour says that he eats them. And he's sniffed out Rudger. Soon Rudger is alone, and running for his imaginary life. But can a boy who isn't there survive without a friend to dream him up?

A brilliantly funny, scary and moving read from the unique imagination of A.F. Harrold, this beautiful book is astoundingly illustrated with integrated art and colour spreads by the award-winning Emily Gravett.

Baylis And Harding Christmas Gift Sets

As every year Baylis & Harding bring out their ever so popular gift sets for Christmas and they never disappoint. You all know that I'm a super fan and it's the one brand I buy all year round. If I buy gift sets for friends and family I always go for one of theirs. They are always good quality and fair priced.

This year they send me some gift sets for me to try. The first is a men's travel sized set in black pepper and ginseng scent. The set contains 100ml aftershave balm, 100ml hair and body wash, 50ml shower gel & 50ml face wash. The set comes in a water proof leather look bag, which is so much better than the material ones. Perfect for traveling or keeping bits and bobs in the bathroom.

The second set was skin spa range with the scent of lavender and bergamot. I'm a massive fan of lavender is one of my favourite scents to have. Included in the set is 100ml body cleanser, 50ml hand and body lotion & a hot water bottle cover ( water bottle not included) perfect for a aromatherapy relaxing night in to ease and melt all your troubles away. I absolutely love the hot water bottle cover, it's something we have go missing in this house.

Prices start from £8

Gro Clock Sleep Trainer

Both of the kids really have never been great sleepers. Both really didn't start sleeping though until they was two years old. Bedtime we are in a routine and it goes pretty well, only one problem is Lexie has to fall asleep in my bed before I transfer her then to hers. I've tried everything to get her to sleep in her bed, teddies, character bedding & decorating her room. Nothing seems to work, then in the night she will get up and crawl back in to my bed.

One of my friends suggested the Gro clock sleep trainer, so I'm was super excited when they asked me to work with them. The Gro clock is really simple to use, once you have set the correct time. You then set the time you want your child to get up. Before bed you click the button which turns the yellow sun to the blue star, 12 little stars will appear and they will then fade as the time goes by until the sun appears again at wake up time.

The concept of this is really good as you just have to wait until the stars disappear then the sun appears, then it's time to get up.

Lexie has been really excited about the Gro clock and it's quite a bright night light, which is really soothing when it's blue and it's bedtime.

Lexie has been really excited to turn the sun in to the star at bedtime and wait again for the sun to get up. She's been happier to go off in her bed ( think we have hit 4/7 days) in just a few weeks. She hasn't been getting out of bed in the middle of the night now either, which is a massive success.

Japan Candy Box Review & Giveaway

Both the kids are huge fans of YouTube and watch some wacky videos. One of their favourites is to watch people eating different countries foods and sweets. My son wanted to test some sweets from around the world, so when Japan Candy box got in touch he was thrilled.

Japan Candy box is a subscription box which delivers between 8-10 Japanese candy and snacks every month for $18.20. ( which works out just over £12). We was thrilled with the selection for this month and we all have our favourites. Some of the sweets and snacks you can make out by the pictures what they are but as the writing is in Japanese it's literally a surprise every time.

The only item I had heard of in this months box was Pocky, which are biscuit sticks with a chocolate covering.

We had some mango chewy sweets.

Some pink hard candy which doubled up as a whistle and had a mystery box with a toy dinosaur in.

Some biscuits with cream inside.

Panda biscuits with a chocolate filling

Some grape flavoured gummy sweets

Fruit flavoured jelly beans

Sour hard candy balls

The kids was so excited to open the box and try out all the goodies. We have decided we are going to do this a regular thing and get a few boxes from all around the world.
