DK Carol Vorderman Work Book Review

One of my main concerns in the summer holidays is doing the set homework they have been given and keeping their brains active. I do try and carry on our weekly school routine but it's so hard getting Raiden to sit down and do anything sometimes.

Carol Vorderman is the number one bestselling children's education author and is the author of the 10 Minutes A Day Spelling Fun and 10 Minutes A Day Vocabulary workbooks, newly released as part of the English Made Easy range published by DK. Carol Vorderman MA (Cantab) MBE, is one of Britain's best-loved TV presenters and is renowned for her skills in mathematics. She has hosted numerous shows from light entertainment with Carol Vorderman's Better Homes and The Pride of Britain Awards, to scientific programmes such as Tomorrow's World, on the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4. Whether co-hosting Channel 4's Countdown for 26 years, or advising Rt. Hon David Cameron on the future of UK mathematics education, Carol has a passion and devotion to explaining educational subjects in an exciting and easily understandable way.

We got sent a lovely summer pack which included the 10 Minutes A Day Vocabulary workbook and some essentials to help us complete the book. This is a workbook with a twist and a very handy gadget, it has a timer so you can set yourself 10 minutes a day.

I'm actually really surprised how much you can do in a 10 minute books. We have came to an agreement of 10 minutes workbook in the morning and 10 minutes homework in the afternoon. Along with 10 minutes reading of a night. I can't believe how much of a different it has been, not only is he happy to do a combined 30 mintues of learning. I'm not stressing or shouting at him that he needs to do his homework. I'm really enjoyed working with him doing the tasks together.

In the Carol Vorderman Made Easy series:
- 10 Minutes A Day Spelling Fun (ages 5-7) (DK, £5.99) - helps children recognize common vowel sounds and their spelling patterns, as well as learning spelling rules for plurals, verb endings, suffixes, prefixes, and much more.
- 10 Minutes A Day Vocabulary (ages 7-11) (DK, £5.99) - reinforces your child’s knowledge of words and their meanings, synonyms and antonyms, adjectives and adverbs, comparisons, metaphors and similes, homographs and homophones, topic words and more.
- Made Easy Spelling Punctuation and Grammar (ages 5-7) (DK, £3.99)
- 10 Minutes A Day Maths (ages 5-7) (DK, £5.99)

Each game or test featured in the workbooks takes a maximum of 10 minutes to complete, with an accompanying 10-minute timer allowing children, and also parents, to track the time it takes to do each exercise. By taking timed challenges, children are encouraged to work fast and keep motived with short bursts of learning. They can also return to the exercises time and time again to improve on their score.  A Parents Notes section is also included in the work books, providing the answers and explaining common pitfalls and guidance on how to avoid them.
