If you read my Galaxy good reads post you will know that I've been trying to get back in to reading. I've decided I need to switch the iPad or TV off and start winding down with a book again. So I was very excited to be picked by Mumsnet to review the new book " The Book Of You" by Claire Kendal.
I don't read many thriller books so it was nice to be thrown in to something different. I do love thriller films that leave you looking over your shoulder and jumping at the rustling of trees. This terrifying debut from Claire Kendal will be right up your street. The book itself is about a women called Clarissa who is becoming more and more disturbed by her colleague Rafe's obsessive behaviour who is convinced they are soul mates after a night spent together back in November. He stalks her everywhere she goes. As her concern mounts, she decides to record everything in her notepad and gather much evidence as possible. She escapes the workplace for six weeks on jury service and the courtroom is a safe haven. But as a violent tale of kidnap and abuse unfolds on the witness stand. Clarissa begins to recognise the parallels with her own life and becomes increasingly worried about Rafe's ultimate aims.
The book itself takes a while to get in to due to the first and third person narratives, which go on though the book. Clarissa herself seems like totally two different people when she it switches. I liked the use of fairy tales in the book as it makes the story more dark menacing side. The book does have a shock factor and pretty detailed in the gripping storyline. The unexpected plot twists make it dark and disturbing in places but it's a book that keeps you gripped with a huge twist at the end that you just think wow I didn't expect that!
